WEB 2.0 FAVORITE APPLICATIONS

One of my favorite applications with 2.0 is the diigo application I signed up for to collect bookmarks and the blog I created. The reason I chose the blog as one of my favorites web 2.0 application is because it’s much simpler to keep track of the multiple categories of information. It can be used for many areas of learning abilities and teaching capacities. After using diigo I discovered that I am able to bookmark material and share related information with my class, friends, and colleagues. Diigo also allows me to edit or highlight articles that I want to send the other users. In addition to using diigo, I enjoyed the use of the blog that I created. I never felt that I would have the technical skills to create my own personal web content for viewers who are interested in finding relevant information from like-minded individuals.  The blog caused me to understand how HTML functions, how screen casting can be used, how comments can help, and ways of importing graphics and videos. The blog was a major contribution for me because it manages its own space, and saves information so I don’t have to erase old information to add new information.

E learning for Instructional Design

The free software that I enjoy using online is the Adobe Photo shop. I may not have access to all the tool presets, but it is a great free software for basic image editing.  I also love how the Office suite free software on Google Docs allow you to save files, share files,  and edit files in reel time with collaborative efforts from other members of the group. What I can appreciate about Google Docs is it can be used as a drop box for larger attachments that can't be sent to Google Mail.

Instructional Design

The first point that was made by the author speaks about online learning and face to face learning differences. Nowadays, I don't have to be face to face to receive an interactive experience or  have virtual chats with instructors and classmates using ipads, smart phones, computers,  the learning capabilities.  I enjoy the different technologies that we are able to use as learning begins to evolve through technology.  Secondly, I understand the point when the researcher made about doing more than working with the architect of technology. The author wants us to learn the reasons behind the construction of instructional technology. Finally, technics being used in instructional technology allows me to think about various aspects to use when determining what format of technology to implement.

How I Use Google Sites

When I decided to work on the Google Sites I felt it would be good for me to post homework assignments and information about myself for students and parents to browse through on their own time. I uploaded a bill board of one of the local radio stations in Detroit. I worked mainly on the Homework assignments link for the month and upcoming field trips. I also posted a graduation picture of myself for students to be able to have a visual of the enjoyment I had when graduating from college with a click here link to read about my adventure through life. Then I have forms and documents for students or parents to download for field trips, syllabus, or any other papers I need to be filed online. This is a link to my radio class. My Radio Class Site

What Lessons Relate to my Profession

The lesson I felt was relevant to my profession is lesson 14:developing an area of expertise and lesson 16: keeping up with the literature in my area of interest.  I look at these two lessons as a link between my Profesional and personal growth. When I do take time out for my personal growth it relates to researching the latest trends and issues in my area of study. I've been practicing the art of audio and video production and technology for over 10 years considering myself very experienced in a practical setting.  What separates me from the rest of my counterparts is that I am using personal time to search for discussion and future strategies that can strengthen the use of audio and  video technology.  In most cases, people believe you can separate work from your personal like.  I believe that my profession is a true representation of what I have a passion for in my personal life.

Why Concept Map for Radio

I choose to do this type of concept map for my students to I indicate how many steps that it takes to complete a Public Service Announcements. I also wanted for my students to understand the proper procedures to acknowledge before the execution of a finish product. This gives students the order of a when it comes to completing a radio public service announcement

3 Differences in Business, P-12, Higher Ed.

The three differences that I notice about instructional design/technology in the context of business, P-12, and education including the following:

Business instructional design/technology is used to promote the skills and training that employees in major corporations need to succeed in a global employment and economic expansion. When dealing with business companies want technology be the driving force of how employees are completing task and the amount of time in takes to complete those task. If technology is used properly employees can learn faster, projects are executed in a timely fashion, and companies profits can grow much quicker.

P-12 instructional design/technology is in the process of integrating technology around the country in the classrooms. P-12 education technology allows the teacher, students, administration, and parents keep a far better accurate account of the student test scores as the child progress until they reach adulthood. The government understands that our students are competing with a world where global education exist because of technology. The main objective for P-12 education is to use technology as a way for students to learn and assessed for mastery.

Higher education technology is geared toward how technology is working in professional major of studies for the students. The students in higher education are able to achieve distant learning effectively as the schools are beginning to find other means of recruiting more students to result to college after high school. It is the objective of the higher educational institutions to prepare students to become a professional of a specific study.

Is there a particular area or way that you believe your current professional working environment could learn from the other contexts described in these chapters?

What I think my current professional environment should be able to learn from these chapters is that technology has created a world where we all are a click away. If we are going to compete on a global scale we must defend the use of instructional technology for the improvement of humanity.

Screen Record Capture

It was very difficult to upload the screencast video I made to the web. It was taking entirely too long to upload to the screencast, so I was unable to embed the vide. What I decided to do is use another software located in Quicktime for Mac users. Once I was able to capture the recording of my screen using Quicktime, I posted it to my blog. As a result, I learned with technology you can always find a way to complete a project even if it takes more time to do so.

Instructional Design Adoption

I am quite familiar with the three types of Instructional Design that are common into the education system that involves an integration of learning systems, computer-based learning, and classroom level technology. I’ve always used gameshows to express those three functions of (ID). The gameshow that I produce cause students to engage in learning systems that students could relate to their lives.I am providing students with real life scenarios that relates to educational learning systems. Like for instance if you show students the steps of learning how to read through in a scenario and then allow the students to evaluate that scenario, answering questions on the promethean board, using the multiple choice method as a way to select the best possible choice when filling in the blanks, critical thinking questions, and compare/contrast.

I consider this gameshow as a learning system that can impact the way students view reading and how they could possibly help a friend or give the student who actually can’t read proper instructions to learn to read through the interactive game show between teachers, students, and technology. Being able to video record gameshows that are geared toward spreading education through the acts of real life  based scenarios. I think students can relate to a product that is providing educational game, Educational Simulation, drill, practice, and tutorial relative and based on a true event. As a teacher I am sure to make sure that the gameshow is aligned with the state standards with the selected digital technology strategies.

Describe A Lesson Plan Using Google Maps for Students

The lesson that I would like to provide to my students is for them to know where three radio stations are located in the city of Detroit, Michigan using Google Maps. After students decide what stations air in Detroit, they will be asked to create a Google Map displaying those locations and sharing with classmates. Once student are able to demonstrate that they are able to find three radio stations that broadcast from Detroit, they will find out how much time does it take to get to the radio station from the school.  The objective is to allow the students to take on adventures that they will have never experience without the instructional technology. In other words, the instructor is familiarizing the students with how tangible it is to pursue careers in the business of radio.

Once students have selected three radio stations in Detroit they will begin following the step by step instruction packet that describes to the students how to set up a Google Account if they don’t already have a Gmail account. Once students successfully set up a Gmail account, they will share with me their maps of the 3 radio stations in Detroit that they selected. The instructor will also have students indicate the type of format organization/school, station identification along with the location of each chosen radio station.  Upon completion students will choose what radio station they would like to take a field trip too for further studies by the most votes.

Human Peformance Improvement and Podcasting

1.) I believe that when Kaufman defined Human Performance Improvement as a way for people to become successful through the help of other people. I knew his idea of learning information and teaching it is an open communication for the greater good of humanity achievements. This theory is able to be used in my day-to-day professional work as a guide to know the following:

A.) I am learning from the students,

B.) If the students are learning from the teacher and

C.) If the students are learning from each other.

This creates a universal learning experience for all the people by the help from the people. Students are more comfortable dealing with the social norms and if the culture in the classroom is to enter to learn and depart to serve, as a student you become obligated to encourage others to do the same.

2.) The podcast I subscribe to listen to using Windows version of ITunes profile name is TED Talks Education.  It is very good at providing new ideas and technology that can transform mediocre teachers into future leaders for every student can model. The link to the podcast is as followed:

3.) I think podcasting can provide other people with the same or similar experiences to the world of new ideas. It is very hard to be a professional teacher if you think you are the only teacher alive. In order to evolve as a teacher, coach, or student at some point you have to research, study, and reinvent the ideas that other people have demonstrated and valued in their works to the improvement of humanity. As a person, I don’t always know what is going on in the world around me, but as a people I am able to learn from other people. Podcasting is necessary because it gives all people the freedom to learn, teach, and share information on demand.

LEARNING THEORIES

If I was planning an instructional design for students calculating and comparing cost of various brands of the same product, I would make use of the Behavioral Learning Theory. For instance, I would make sure the students are listening by observing as I ask for one of the students in the classroom to read. If I don’t have the students undivided attention how will they be able to learn the content. I also will apply Cognitive Information Theory to the lesson by asking students how the cost of products relates to real life situations. This gives the students to remember times that they paid more than the item cost and different stores. In addition, it allows students to retrieve long term information if it brings some type of value to their lives. These are two ways I can apply the learning theories to my lesson.

The History of Instructional Design & Technology

A.)  After reading Chapter 3 in the Trends and Issue book, this devoted time on the history of instructional media. The three possible reason why the use of technology had little effect on the instructional practices employed by teachers for an entire year because of following:

Examples

1)  Since the early 1980's history of instructional media has been used as a tool that is displayed to the students. In other words technology does not take the teacher a way from the teaching process, it just adds to the value of what teachers are presenting.

2) From the 20th Century instructional curriculum located in Museums located in the United States indicated that the use of teachers and books were not to be obsolete. Instead, teachers have the antinomy to select the particular media that they want to

3.) Another reason is that instructional films has been used for military personnel since World War II to simulate, evaluate, analyze, and gain familiarity on the procedures to carry out in battles, and what to look for from the opponents. The study showed that Americans were training at a faster pace than their counterparts with the use of instructional videos.  From this study, I am able to believe that the coach, trainer, or teachers have always been using instructional technology as a way too speed up the learning process.

B.) Two strategies that could have been applied to help reduce the factors that contributed to minimal effects that the project had on instructional practices are (1) technology savvy teacher, (2)  teachers ability to construct objectives that integrate technology. The reason I believe that technology driven teacher will excel is because they have firsthand experience on using technology to educate themselves. Therefore, they won’t have trouble teaching their practical skills to the learners. Teachers must have effective objectives that can be tested and assessed to be sure that the students are mastering the tools that the teacher use to integrate technology to the learning process.

Trends and Issues in Instructional Design and Technology (3rd ed.).

  1. I believe that Diigo website is a very great link for students and teachers because students who are raised in the 21st century are technology savvy. These are students who already are on intermediate level by the time they are in high school. The problem teachers are facing is students are learning to use technology inappropriately while the traditional teacher is behind on technology strategies.  This is what causes your technology savvy students to become disruptive with the use of technology. Consequently, if we are not able to instructionally prepare our students for technology, then our students will never learn the art of controlling the technology. If students are not able to control the use of technology and how they use it, they could become bombarded with negative messages that can distract a student from the educational learning that takes place in the classroom.  Social bookmarking will make it much easier for students to communicate with their classmates, teacher, and be able to show their parents new articles that the teacher may have shared that can be useful and vice versa. Diigo makes collaboration happens between the teachers, students, and technology. Diigo link below:
  2. How I thought that the definitions in the first chapter of the book Trends & Issues, is that we are dealing with the evolving merge of technology birth to humanity. It is constantly growing into new ways to use technology for educational purposes. When technology focused on media, however media has transitioned from the production of technology to the pre production process, which refers to “how to do.” My future career as a career technology instructor depends on my ability to keep up with the constant growth of technology and how it relates to my field of study, which is radio and television. On the other hand, technology can represent nursing, cosmetology, graphic arts, theatre arts and many other areas of interest. In all, I don’t believe technology can take away from the instructional learning, I do believe that it can enhance the learning of a variety of fields that are of value in the 21st century.

Reflection

I agree with Postman when he said that he does not oppose of what technology can do for the educators, but it can be a distraction for students who use technology inappropriately. As I reflect on my life and teachings throughout my career as a student and a teacher, I notice that most of the students I deal with have access to technology on demand. Which causes students to intake an abundance of messages that destroys the intellectual capacity instead of nurture intellect. Postman also discussed that most researchers believe that technology allows students the access to technology faster and conveniently, which encourages students to spend a number of hours searching for information that is not conducive for the learning environment.

Reigeluth & Joseph explains that technology can be used to educate students, but it has to be a curriculum geared toward fusing technology in the classroom. I believe that the problems with our students in today’s society is that they understand how to use technology, but lack how it can enhance their education training if they were to use it appropriately. In most cases educators expect students to learn at the same level, however, with the use of technology it can create lesson plans for individuals to learn at their own level of mastery. In other words technology can cause students to master levels without following the pace of the classroom.

After reading the article on what the internet has started from and what it has evolved to, I realize that everyone should have an opinion as to what is being created. If you are interested in what happens when technology gets a hold of the world, check the link below
