Reflection

I agree with Postman when he said that he does not oppose of what technology can do for the educators, but it can be a distraction for students who use technology inappropriately. As I reflect on my life and teachings throughout my career as a student and a teacher, I notice that most of the students I deal with have access to technology on demand. Which causes students to intake an abundance of messages that destroys the intellectual capacity instead of nurture intellect. Postman also discussed that most researchers believe that technology allows students the access to technology faster and conveniently, which encourages students to spend a number of hours searching for information that is not conducive for the learning environment.

Reigeluth & Joseph explains that technology can be used to educate students, but it has to be a curriculum geared toward fusing technology in the classroom. I believe that the problems with our students in today’s society is that they understand how to use technology, but lack how it can enhance their education training if they were to use it appropriately. In most cases educators expect students to learn at the same level, however, with the use of technology it can create lesson plans for individuals to learn at their own level of mastery. In other words technology can cause students to master levels without following the pace of the classroom.

  1. LaMarr, I agree with your message which to me means that technology isn't good or bad in and of itself, it depends on how it is being used. In other words, it a tool.
